my sister's birthday - september 12

7:57 PM

Today I celebrated a special day: the day my sister became an adult!
 That's just crazy.

She wanted a star themed party but she didn't want to plan it. So... I did.
But here's the thing: how are you supposed to throw a party for teenagers?
Having spent the summer almost exclusively with people of the teenage variety (I was a camp counselor), I consider myself an almost expert on adolescent entertainment. Therefore, I'd like to bestow this knowledge upon the world.

Melinda's Tips to Throw a Great Party for Teenagers:
1. Have something delicious
2. Think of an awesome activity

That's mostly all you need to know.
(unless you don't know about regular things like inform people of the date, time, location. but if you don't know that then maybe you shouldn't be having a party cuz that is party 101).

But you can do more than throw a great party, how about an awesome party?

A Star Party

1. Something Delicious

Star cupcakes! I'm pretty proud of these guys even though the black frosting is pretty frightening. Someone smashed the thing in my sister's face: Happy Birthday to you!

Here's how you do it:

Make the stars

1.Melt about 10 white candy melts
2. Scoop them into a ziplock bag
3. Cut off a tiny tiny bit of the tip of the bag
4. Squeeze a dot onto a sheet of wax paper
5. Use a toothpick to draw 5 points out from the center of the dot
6. Make a whole bunch of little white chocolate stars!

Dye some frosting black

1. Start with chocolate frosting
2. Put in a ton of black gel food coloring. Like a whole ton. And maybe some blue.
3. Keep adding until it turns black!

Put it all together

1. Frost the cupcake
2. Carefully peel the stars off the wax paper (wait until they are all the way dry)
3. Place them on the cupcake
4. Sprinkle a bit of clear sugar sprinkles on top

Star Brownies

1. Get a piece of paper the same size as your brownie dish
2. Trace some stars onto the paper
3. Cut out the stars
4. Place the paper on top of the brownies
5. Sprinkle powdered sugar over the whole thing
6. Carefully lift the paper
Boom! awesome star brownies!

2. Awesome activity
Star War

Head to a hardware store and get a bunch of PVC pipes-1/2 inch cut into 12 inch pieces-one for each person attending the party.

Get a bunch of nerf darts. We bought a few packs, each with a dozen darts in it at a dollar store.
We spray painted them silver (so they can be "shooting stars") but that's not necessary.

Put a dart in the end of a PVC pipe and blow with all your might towards your target. POW!

The rules of Star War are the same as capture the flag but instead of tagging each other with a hand, use a dart (sometimes it's fun to die in place and wait to be revived rather than go to a jail).

Here's the cute birthday girl

Have a happy star party!
