While we waited for our other dear friend to arrive, the two of us plotted our adventure. Naturally, I explained the ramifications of needing to somehow celebrate a holiday. We quickly ruled out International Bacon Day because neither of us shares the internationally unifying love of fried pig, but we definitely had to consider a potential need for disguising ourselves with fake beards in an effort to protect our identities and commemorate World Beard Day. We explored that idea and the potential of celebrating National Shrink Day by making shrinky dinks and psychoanalyzing each other but settled on a holiday a little more adventurous: International Vulture Awareness Day.
Our plan: climb onto a roof that shelters a bunch of picnic tables in a small park at the highest peak of our town. We would become one with the vultures. Preferably, we would also bring food with us. However, raw meat sounded inedible and a cheese pizza (for National Cheese Pizza Day) seemed too ambitious for our poise skills.
As soon as our other friend arrived, the food issue was solved. She wanted Jamba Juice and happened to know of a two-for-one deal. Done and done.
We gathered our smoothies and a large amount of blankets and began setting ourselves up to climb the shelter. We didn't make it. It was so freaking cold! And smoothies? Even colder!
So we ended up just being aware of vultures as we discussed life in a less frigid environment. Poor vultures! They are probably going extinct from being unable to assume the great heights necessary to seek carcasses due to unseasonably chilly weather.
