national thank you day - september 15

10:36 PM

Usually, thanks is given to benefit the receiver. They certainly do profit from the expression of another's gratitude. However, we often overlook the way that gratitude changes the person who is expressing it. When we are grateful for something we are more humble and we are more happy with our lives. For example, I have an issue with comparison. I look to others and see all the great things happening in their lives, all their great attributes, etc. and I look at myself in terms of not having those things. But gratitude is the antedote to comparison. When we choose to realize what we have and be thankful for that, the sting of comparison disappears.
Today I choose to thank some people. That act left me feeling joyful. It was partly because I was doing something I knew would make them feel good but it was also partly because it made me realize how lucky I am to have such excellent people in my life.
Thank you to gratitude for making a difference in my life today.

If you want to tell someone "thank you" today, these guys were really easy to make. I just cut a paper grocery bag into strips and folded it like doors (because I think that's a fun way to fold a card). Then I just doodled on the front with a black gel pen. Happy thanking!
